Holy Crap!

I just found out that I'm a top 20 finalist in a screenwriting competition called Script P.I.M.P. I guess Deadbeat Boyfriends isn't dead after all. I'm invited to their awards ceremony in L.A. on July 26, where they announce the four winners.

Members of Think Tank Thursday, I guess I'll have to miss our next meeting!

Way to go, Marc. DBB is a great script and this news comes as no great surprise. Still, there's nothing like a "finalist" rating to give you a shot in the creative arm. I'll be pulling for you -- and hoisting a glass to you @ the post T3 Grumpy's roundtable on the 26th. DK

Likewise. It's a good feeling, even if it's just a list. But even just for that, I owe you guys a debt of gratitude.

Also, now that you're a top 20 Script P.I.M.P., and since so many of the writers in LA are whores, does that mean they have to give you wads of slightly damp bills and promise to "be your bitch"?

Actually, because it makes me both a pimp and a whore, I'm not sure what to do except beat myself up.

LOL! What an exchange. I'm hoisting an Irish whiskey at this very moment in your honor. Later I'll be giving myself a haircut with the lawm mower. What fun we have!

Seriously, this is wonderful news MC, and you deserve huge kudos. There are four winners? You're in the Top 20? Those are great odds! You can do it.

And, we'll have a special T5:30 in your honor when you return.

Congrats!

What's interesting is that the only difference between being a finalist and being a winner, as far as I can tell, is $2,500. The "exposure" side of the equation is the same.

Any idea how many scripts were pimped, er, entered in the contest?

I haven't been able to find that out yet. I'm assuming I'll be getting something in the mail, and that might say.

Congrats. Good to see Minneapolis doin it.

I was a finalist last year, got a couple of bites from managers and whatnot. I was rep'd already, but it was still cool to feel wanted.

Your friend,

Derek Mantini

Hold on. I'm a little slow on the uptake. Is that Michael Starrbury? Wow, what's up? Did you win the McKnight this year... every time I check they still haven't posted the winners.
