Did She or Didn't She?

Hm. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, I want to believe that she genuinely teared up just thinking of the burden of leadership. But, a close observation of her facial mannerisms in this clip—especially about the time of the sigh/pause before she launches into "...you know I have so many opportunities from this country..."—seems to reveal a splendid example of the Duchenne smile. And I have to think it was all a set-up.

For the record, I actually don't think Hillary faked this, and I have two reasons.

1) Being "cold and calculating" is one skill; acting is an entirely different skill. I find it thoroughly believable that the "Iron My Shirt" guy at one of her speeches was a plant. That one is easy to pull off, and a smart way to appeal to women in the short and long term. But to conjure tears on cue in a believable way? Way too hard and specialized a skill.

2) To have faked tears is a really dumb thing for a "cold and calculating female politician to do. It's way too risky in the short term, and it's suicide in the long term.

All of Hillary's positions have been well-crafted for the general election. You're telling me she decided to feign tears to win New Hampshire and risk that clip being used against her over and over again in the general election? A "commander in chief who cries" running against Rudy Giuliani, John McCain or Mitt Romney? No way.

If you think Hillary is cold and calculating, then you can't believe that she would do something that risky. You can't have it both ways.
